How I teach
My training philosophy is 'practical makes perfect' and I've adapted the teaching skills I gained as a qualified TEFL teacher to use with journalism students. I believe you can't learn to be a writer by just sitting and listening - you have to get out there and do it. Consequently, my sessions include a great deal of practical work, keeping ‘teacher talking time’ to a minimum and encouraging students to think and write for themselves.

What my students have to say

  • "Very well organised and intensive. Lucy is an excellent lecturer."
  • "Lucy is an excellent trainer, clear and practical advice and an open and friendly manner."
  •  "Brilliant!!"
  •  "I really enjoyed today. I found it very interesting and informative."
  • "A really good introductory course, very approachable style and broad coverage."
  • "A great course. We got through a lot in such a short time."
  • "An excellent day, couldn't have asked for a more practical insight    into freelancing.
  • "Supporting materials were superb."
Where I've taught
I'm a visiting tutor of print journalism at Goldsmiths University, the UK's leading creative university, and have also devised and run my own courses on freelancing and writing real life stories for CSV (Community Service Volunteers) and Journalism Training. I recently ran a workshop on successful interviewing for the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) for an audience of alumni magazine professionals.
